It is a system to secure Internet transactions promoted by Visa International and Mastercard among others. The main purpose is to provide greater security to both the Internet user and the companies that sell through the Internet by authenticating the buyer as the legitimate holder of the card being used.
In practice, when paying with a "secured" VISA or MASTERCARD card, in addition to the number and expiration date, a personal password for exclusive use for Internet purchases will be requested, which unequivocally identifies you as its owner. In this way, no one will be able to make a purchase on the Internet if they do not know this password. You will be able to distinguish if the Secure Electronic Commerce protocol is activated or not through the "Verified by VISA" and "MasterCard SecureCode" logos.
If you have not yet received a personal password for exclusive use for Internet payments, we advise you to ask your financial institution to register your cards with the Secure Electronic Commerce service. To do so, you can contact your bank or, if you are an electronic banking customer, you can request it directly online.
